And we often only get one chance to make them.<\/p><p>In this video, we&#8217;ll look at five things you can do to make a great first impression.<\/p><p>First off: be punctual!<\/p><p>When you&#8217;re meeting someone face to face for the first time, allow for any potential delays when planning your journey, and make sure you set off early.<\/p><p>If you&#8217;re <a class=\"ew-link\" data-url=\"anxe04c\/virtually-perfect-meetings-video\" href=\"\/anxe04c\/virtually-perfect-meetings-video\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">meeting someone virtually<\/a>, test your equipment \u2013 including your mic and camera \u2013 beforehand, to check it&#8217;s all working correctly.<\/p><p>Think about what you&#8217;ll wear, too.<\/p><p>Context is everything here. If you&#8217;re meeting someone in the creative industry, the dress code is likely to be more relaxed than if you&#8217;re meeting someone who works in corporate finance. A good rule of thumb is to imagine what the person you&#8217;re meeting will likely be wearing.<\/p><p>And remember that dress is also culturally influenced \u2013 so keep in mind that different countries and cultures will have different expectations.<\/p><p>Your attitude shines through in everything you do. So, try your best to stay relaxed and positive, even in the face of criticism or nerves.<\/p><p>Pay attention to your <a class=\"ew-link\" data-url=\"aejjzul\/body-language\" href=\"\/aejjzul\/body-language\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">body language<\/a> as well \u2013 this can often have as big an impact as your words.<\/p><p>So, stand or sit up tall, smile, and make eye contact. This will project an air of confidence, and help both you and the other person to feel more at ease.<\/p><p>Finally, remember to give the person you&#8217;re meeting 100 percent of your attention. Set aside your phone and <a class=\"ew-link\" data-url=\"aybnxcc\/7-ways-to-minimize-distractions-video\" href=\"\/aybnxcc\/7-ways-to-minimize-distractions-video\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">avoid getting distracted<\/a> by other people or other things.<\/p><p>Good manners and attentive, courteous behavior are essential for making a great first impression \u2013 anything less might even be considered rude.<\/p><p>When you meet someone new for the first time, it can be daunting.
